Project Memoirs: Real Projects, Real Lessons
- by Michael Wood (December 7, 2009)
Most seasoned project managers have a treasure trove of lessons they have learned over the years. Some lessons came at the cost of failure, others with success. So take a stroll with me down memory lane as I use real projects from my personal experience as case studies for a few lessons learned.

Each week a new feature article will be published in this section. Past articles will appear under the corresponding Channel or in the Features section. As always, we want to hear from you. So share any insights, counterpoints or epiphanies you might have.

Process Improvement
Let's talk process improvement: Who can't use new ways to improve their processes?

Processes
Value Stream Assessment Process
Value Stream Assessment is a high impact, short term, low cost approach to examining an enterprise's business problems with the objective of rapidly identifying a comprehensive solution based on value streams. This shifts the business from being driven by internal operations to being driven by customer needs and satisfiers. It provides high-value feedback to the executives about the business vision, management's alignment with the vision, and the strengths and weaknesses of the enterprise relative to achieving the vision.
