It is the information about their customers that makes a customer want to come back to the site and shop more. By using customers' purchase information, their preferences and their interest in specific ads, e-tailers are able to customize the web site for each of their customers and provide them with the information that they want. No e-tailer is a better example of this than Amazon.com.
Amazon.com thrives on information. It separates itself from the other online booksellers by giving you selections based on what you have purchased and what others like you have purchased. By using aggregated preferences, Amazon is able to recommend a book that you have not purchased by determining other books that those similar to you have purchased.
