Okay, so we moved away from giving cars as sign-on bonuses and on to staffing freezes and layoffs throughout the country. So tell me, has that changed your perspective on your current staff and keeping their goals alive? Do you know what those key interests are?

There are three main questions that every employee considers: Will they be able to maintain their quality of life? Will they be challenged in their work? Will they be able to move up within the company? These are facts, not conjecture. So heed this wake-up call! Don't take your current staff for granted just because they are already on board and the job market is down. As a manager, your job just got harder. You need to find a way to keep your team's project goals intact and retain your top talent, staffing freeze or not.
