To be a good auditor, keep these 10 key points in mind when auditing a software development project:
 
1. Have a checklist
When you are doing an audit of a software development project, you should have a checklist that you will use as a guideline to perform an audit. The checklist can be obtained from the quality department of your organization, or you could create one and recommend it to the quality department.
 
Having the checklist helps the auditor focus on the deliverables that need to be audited and also on the quality defects of those deliverables. This would tell the auditor whether the project should have a communication plan and what defects to look for in a communication plan and so forth.
