Interviewing Your Potential Employer: It's the Little Things!

There are certain things you can pick up about a company culture in just the first few minutes of your arrival. Do yourself a favor and don’t ignore any red flags (negative or positive!) when you see them. Chances are that you are not being overly sensitive or “imagining” things. If I had a dime for every story I heard of a new employee walking into an environment that was not anything like what they had been expecting, I would be a rich woman.

We all know the old saying, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” Well, that is true not only on the candidate's end of things, but on the employer's side as well. Let’s review some first impressions that candidates have shared with me about the company culture they observed during the interview process.

The front desk was more like the “Gestapo.”
We all realize how much power the people at the front desk have in their hands, and that is why when we enter the building as candidates and greet those individuals, we are on our best behavior! After all, who knows what they are  whispering into that telephone receiver as they announce your arrival.
