Categorizing E-Business Models

Arriving at a consensus set of business models for e-business is not an easy task. There are a number of ways you can look at the whole e-commerce/e-business/digital economy landscape, and too many variables are involved. Before we arrive at a framework for e-business that will help us understand how different business models have fared during the last few years, let's take a look at three types of classification systems that others have used.

 

First up: a framework developed by a research group at the University of Texas and commissioned by Cisco to measure the Internet economy. The framework segments the Internet Economy in different layers, which could be directly traced to how businesses generate revenues using the Internet.
