They can run (and sometimes they don't even bother to do that), but they can't hide. Is it time for companies to step up to the plate and begin implementing Forced Ranking in order to trim a little of the company fat?

 

You know who I am talking about…the IT manager who spends more time walking the floor than solving actual problems. The senior staffer that figured he had worked hard throughout his career and now leans back in his chair figuring the company owes him. Or how about the analyst who always raises her hand for that extra project work in order to get noticed by the managers, while her inattention to her key roles causes her project teams to miss deadlines?

 

Any of these seem familiar? Disclaimer: any similarity to actual persons is purely coincidental…or rather inevitable! We all have them.
