gantthead is once again excited to be bringing you our annual virtual conference and exhibition on Thursday, May 20, 2010. It's your opportunity to learn, network, earn PDUs and gain valuable knowledge all from the comfort of your home, office-or home office.

PMXPO 2010 is a fantastic way to get the trade show experience without all the trade show expense. You'll have the same interaction with experts, peers and solution providers, the same educational opportunities and the same professional networking capability, all within typical work hours, and all completely free.

This conference addresses the specific needs of project executives and aspiring executives, charged with managing project offices, program offices and project portfolios of organizations big and small. In five sessions-plus an exciting keynote presentation-we'll offer overviews of common PPM and PMO issues with valuable take-away materials, including templates, checklists, project plans and presentations that you can modify and use in your own practice.

Get all of this, without the hassles of travel, wardrobe and sore feet that come with the typical trade show experience. You won't be getting the pens, squishy stress balls and keychains that you pick up at a live conference, but you will get hand-outs that you can use, like product demonstrations and other special offers from vendors at their virtual booths.

Registration is free, so take a minute now and make sure you don't miss out on what promises to be one of the highest-value conference experiences in project management this year.

SESSIONS

Project Negotiations: Deal Yourself a Winning Hand!
Joe Lukas, PMP, Vice President, PM Centers USA
11:00 a.m. ET

Do you have clients that constantly ask for minor extras at no additional cost? Do you have problems getting the right resources for your projects? Do your team members consistently miss schedule dates or exceed budgets? Maybe the problem is that you are not an effective negotiator! Most experienced Project Managers typically have good 'hard skills' in project management, such as defining scope, budgeting or scheduling, but come up short in some soft skills areas such as negotiating.

In the song "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers, he sings "if you're gonna play the game...ya gotta learn to play it right. You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away and know when to run." His song unfortunately has the wrong title. It should be "The Project Manager" because the lyrics exactly describe project situations that Project Managers constantly encounter in negotiations.

This webcast will present the top ten mistakes made in conducting project negotiations, along with techniques that can be utilized to avoid these mistakes. Negotiating process best practices covering pre-meeting preparation, the negotiation session and post-meeting activities will also be discussed. This talk will help you understand when to hold your position, when to fold (compromise), when to walk away and when to run.

Project Managers looking for pointers on how to be more effective in negotiation situations will find this webcast very useful. If you think you're a skilled negotiator, attend this webcast to see if you are making any of the ten most common negotiation errors. You may be surprised!

The NEW Public Sector PMO: Strategic Positioning For Real Results
Tim Jaques, PMP,
Jonathan Weinstein, PMP
2:45 p.m. ET

Building a successful PMO in the public sector has proven to be tough. Between skeptical customers, increasingly complex projects, and austere budgets, public sector PMO's have struggled to gain acceptance and deliver value. With a growing inventory of projects, public sector PMO's require a new game plan - one that begins at the top and looks to add value down tot he transaction level. Many public agencies are implementing the "Strategic PMO" as a way to link governance, portfolios, projects, and customers. As the essential middle layer between on-the-ground projects and the executive suite, PMO's have an imperative to deliver value to their customers. The strategic PMO is built around specific functions that add the greatest value across the organization. Jon and Tim will discuss a proven approach for building a new PMO or improving an existing one that delivers value right away.

This new approach allows the PMO design team to focus on what is important, as opposed to trying to make the PMO satisfy everyone. This exciting presentation will focus on methods for standing up a PMO in the public sector and new ways that the PMO is adding value. This presentation will discuss methods for standing up a PMO in the public sector and new ways that the PMO is adding value. Tim and Jon will discuss how PMO's can operate as a "business-within-a-business," bringing an entrepreneurial approach to bureaucracy. Their exciting presentation will deliver:
